The launch event, co-organised by Africa Climate Solutions (ACS) and Cluster ENR, with the support of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, brought together public and private stakeholders to discuss climate finance, corporate decarbonisation, and the next steps toward implementation.
Mr Razi Bouzekri, Secretary General at the Ministry for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of the Kingdom of Morocco, H.E. Mr Valentin Zellweger, Swiss Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, and Mr Ahmed Bouzid, Director General for Development of Energy and Mineral Production, officially opened the event, underlined the strong collaboration between the partner countries, and emphasised the importance of cooperative climate action and the outstanding role of this first jointly authorised mitigation activity.

On the associated panel "Carbon finance: what decarbonisation levers are available to businesses?", Anas Felhi, General Manager North Africa at the KliK Foundation, highlighted the growing role of Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement as an enabler for strategic high integrity decarbonisation in Morocco.
Authorised under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, SR500 builds on the bilateral climate cooperation between Morocco and Switzerland, ensuring transparency and avoiding double counting of emission reductions.
The activity addresses key barriers to scaling rooftop solar by pooling projects within one framework, facilitating access to high-quality equipment and installers, and harmonising measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) requirements. SR500 is making carbon revenues accessible to projects that could not achieve this mitigation measure individually.
It is great news that SR500 now moves into its operational phase, with a clear ambition to mobilise Moroccan companies around solar self-consumption and accelerate the country’s low-carbon transition.
