Emphasising that climate change is a global issue, Kenya’s President Ruto said: “Climate action is not a Global North issue or a Global South issue. It is our collective challenge, and it affects us all. We need to come together to find common, global solutions.”

To support and identify such global solutions for climate action, the KliK Foundation was present at the Summit. With its official role under the Swiss CO2 Act to procure carbon credits to support the fulfilment of Switzerland’s Nationally Determined Contribution, we met with various stakeholders to jointly ensure that solutions are driving green growth as well as curbing climate impacts. The use of such, urgently needed, mitigation technologies is financially supported by the KliK Foundation under the Article 6.2 mechanism in countries that have a bilateral agreement with Switzerland.

A number of opportunities have emerged from the Summit. One is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Kenya and the Government of Switzerland, which provides an initial understanding on the development of a bilateral cooperation agreement. This can be seen as the source of transformative projects that not only mitigate climate change, but also provide green jobs, a cleaner environment, and economic empowerment.

Various private sector companies were engaged at the Summit to present their programme ideas on e-cooking and e-mobility. The KliK Foundation hopes to support many of these programmes through the provision of carbon revenues when they come to development and implementation.

All interested parties with programme ideas in countries that have signed a bilateral agreement with Switzerland are welcome to submit their proposals.*
