On a first trip to Malawi in April, the KliK Foundation team was introduced to the President of Malawi, H.E. Lazarus CHAKWERA as well as to Honourable Nancy TEMBO, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Honourable Michael USI, Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change (MNRCC) that are working on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The courtesy calls were initiated by the Swiss Ambassador Stéphane REY. We presented the modalities of the cooperation, financing opportunities and benefits. The first working meetings and workshops were also held with all the different stakeholders.

The KliK Foundation is now building its portfolio of climate change mitigation programmes in Malawi. We are looking for programmes that are in the development phase and that can be supported through results-based funding under Article 6. The KliK Foundation supports climate change programmes in the implementation phase through the contractual purchase of ITMOs. A focus lies on programme types like waste to energy, methane capture in industrial processes, AWD, green cement, and solar PV off and on grid. Other programme ideas are very welcome! Submissions must ensure that they are aligned with Malawian national priorities and additional to the Malawian NDC. For the development phase, funding is available.
